Sites with and without electric/water hook-ups. We stayed in the "older" section of the campground, so no hook-ups. Hosts are attentive, cleaning out campfire grills, clearing trash, and raking sites after each visit. There are trails between campground loops as well as nature trails linking the entry station with campsites. There are also plenty of trails, interconnecting, heading into the Superstition Mountains and around the base.

We went to the Lost Dutchman State Park for a surprise birthday party for my wife. When we arrived David Young a volunteer greeted us and checked us in. With my wife in the car I told him that we were having a surprise birthday for my wife. He was the perfect example of someone who would make you feel like you were welcome and your stay would be a memorable one. We were told that there was a fire ban but propane was OK. When we got setup I said to the wife lets go and look at some propane fire pits. I also did this to get her out of the park so the others could come and setup for the surprise. Everything was perfect as planned. We picked up the fire pit, returned and the wife was very surprised to see everyone. That evening after diner we decided to have a fire and enjoy the new purchase. The fire pit was amazing. We were just enjoying the cool evening with the fire pit when we had a visit from the host and he noticed that it was a propane fire pit and said everything was OK and left. About an hour or so one of the rangers showed up and said we had to put the propane fire pit away because others would see our fire and start a wood fire. I told the ranger that the signs said propane was OK. I asked if that was not her job to enforce restrictions of wood fires. Her response was that she would be up all night stopping campers form having a fire. So if you are planning to go there be aware that they can change the rules at any time. The stay was nice other than limited bathrooms or not enough. Poor garbage disposal the frustration of not having a fire when we should have. Say hi to Dave, he will make you feel at home.

This is about the hike to flat iron. No signs, no proper trails. Go at your own risk. Even people going often lose their path. It's a paid park and I would definitely expect basic stuffs than what is provided. Trail to flat iron is one of the difficult trails easily accessible by phoenix metro.
